Brazilian Butt Lift
The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a type of butt augmentation procedure which results in youthful, prominent, perky buttocks and a more sensual body profile.
The surgical procedure uses your own fat, so it is the most natural way to augment your buttocks. Over the last few years, the buttocks have received more press coverage than ever before. People of all ages and body types are having the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure.
A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) uses a person's own fat to enhance the size and shape of the buttocks. A plastic surgeon first performs liposuction to remove fat from other areas of the body (often the stomach, hips, and thighs), then injects that fat into the backside. Additional liposuction can be done around the butt to improve the appearance of lift and contour.
A Brazilian Butt Lift is typically an out-patient procedure, meaning you can have the lift done, and go home the same day, with restrictions. Some patients may choose to stay overnight in a health care facility.
The recovery time for the Brazilian Butt Lift generally involves taking about 1 week away from work, and 3 weeks away from exercise and heavy lifting. Every surgeon will have different requirements that you will be asked to abide by.
Most normal, daily activities can be resumed in about 1 week and a compression garment is worn by patients for a few weeks post-operatively to ensure minimal swelling and smooth results. This helps with the contour of the areas that experienced liposuction. However, please keep in mind that patients can’t sit or lie directly on the area that was grafted for about 14 days after the procedure.
The brazilian butt lift is actually somewhat of a misnomer. During this procedure, the buttocks are re-shaped and augmented with the use of fat. The butt is actually not "lifted." The fat is re-distributed and this gives the butt the appearance of having been lifted. This can also be accomplished with implants.
In a traditional butt lift, the excess or flaccid lower back skin and fat are removed. And once the wound is closed, the buttocks are lifted to a higher position. This procedure is not as popular today, as it involves a large scar in the lower back. It is appropriate for patients with excess or loose skin in the buttocks.
The brazilian butt lift involves very small scars (less than 1 cm), and is ideal for patients with good skin quality in the buttock region.
During the first 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery, we inform the patients that it is essential to minimize any pressure to the area where the fat has been grafted. We always recommend that the patient's sleep on their sides or preferably on their stomach for the first weeks after the surgery. We also ask that the patients used a circular air cushion when seated during this process. By taking care of the areas that have received the fat grafts, and using the compression garments that we provide to the patients, they can successfully achieve their desired results.
The post operative care after a Brazilian Butt lift is very important. It is essential that patients understand that they must minimize the amount of pressure that they place on their butt after the surgery. All our patients are also fitted with special garments that will provide compressive pressure to the areas where they receive liposuction and will not place pressure on the areas that have received the new fat grafts. This is very important. We also recommend that patients initiate a healthy exercise regimen and a balanced diet. This will help them maintain a great results that they receive from their liposuction and all of their beautiful new curves.
